KNALIJ is a real-time infographic engine. The KNALIJ PubMed web application is built to visualize and explore the connections within medical research. KNALIJ PubMed draws upon more than 22 million abstracts as a unique knowledge discovery tool.
The cluster nodes (big discs) denote subject, author, journal or funding source (depending on the type of search). Clusters are groupings of related Articles.Article Nodes
The article nodes (smaller discs) connect to clusters. These are Articles returned from searching PubMed.
Searching with KNALIJ PubMed is exactly the same as with PubMed, having identical functionality and field tags.
For Advanced Search features, click the 'Advanced' button next to the search window.
To change the KNALIJ Map settings, click on 'Preferences' located to the right of the 'Advanced' button.
A KNALIJ cluster map is generated in real-time after each PubMed search. To view the results in a list format click the 'Results Grid Panel' sidebar button.Various Lists
The primary list is of the article clusters. The top dropdown menu switches from it to 'Article Results List', for the entire set of found PubMed articles.Results Filters
Click on the ‘Filter’ button and type a search term into the: 'Filter', 'Size' or 'Year' fields, and then press the 'enter' key.
Selecting any cluster from the 'Results Grid Panel' will focus and center it on the displayed map.
Click any cluster on the KNALIJ map to highlight it and its nearest neighbors in the foreground. All other clusters will be hidden. Articles for the visible clusters will be listed in the 'Results Grid Panel'.
Click on an article node or from the 'Results Grid Panel' to display its 'Summary Bubble' popup. The popup has accompanying links to the associated PubMed Abstract or full article.Article Basket
Check boxes next to the articles listed in the 'Results Grid Panel', or the 'Add to Article Basket' in the summary bubble popup will collect articles together where they can be downloaded in various formats.
The KNALIJ longitudinal analysis tool ('time machine') is in the sidebar panel. With it PubMed search results can be interactively filtered by publication date.
Click on 'PDF' to save a complete KNALIJ map as a pdf file.
Click to share your favorite KNALIJ map to Social Networks, Evernote, Digg or via Email from the links in the top navigation bar.
Uses the MeSH Terms assigned by PubMed to the search.
Uses the internal KNALIJ clustering algorithm creating maps for the newest articles, without assigned MeSH terms.
Alternate KNALIJ Map clustering by article Authors instead of keywords for a given search.
Alternate KNALIJ Map clustering by Journals in which the articles appear, for a given search.
Creates a KNALIJ Map based on public funding sources, for a given search set of articles.
